Repairing vs. replacing windows

Repair or Replace? Making the Right Decision for Your Windows
Knowing whether to repair or replace your home’s windows is extremely important, especially when you consider the price of replacements. Having issues with your windows can cause some stress, but before you decide to take action, consider how severe the problem is and then decide which route to take.
Repairing Your Windows
For more minor issues, it could make much more sense to choose a simple repair. One misconception among some homeowners is that broken or cracked glass is cause for replacing a window completely. That doesn’t have to be the case, as the pane itself can be replaced without need for a whole new frame. Other repairs that can be made involve window parts. If the crank or lock system is broken, those singular issues can be solved with no further costs. Plus, if your window’s caulking or weatherstripping is falling apart, that can be fixed with a repair rather than a replacement.
Replacing Your Windows
There are definitely some bigger problems that do call for a full-on replacement. If your windows are aging and functioning poorly, it makes sense to have them replaced. Repeatedly repairing the same windows can become costly over time, which means getting new ones installed is probably a smart decision financially as well. Additionally, if your old windows are single-paned and perform inefficiently, it’s best to look into newer options that are double- or triple-paned. And more pressing than that would be windows and frames that are rotting and falling apart. If that’s an issue, replacement is surely the best choice.
