Poquoson, informally known as Bull Island, is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,150. Poquoson is one of the oldest continuously named cities in Virginia. It is also one of the few to retain a name derived from the Native Americans who inhabited the area before colonization by the English began in the 17th century. Excellent Schools

Poquoson City Public Schools serve the city. There are four public schools in Poquoson. There is the Poquoson Primary School for Kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grades. Poquoson Elementary School serves the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Poquoson Middle School offers 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade classes. Poquoson High School has grades 9-12. Availability of Amenities

Poquoson offers unique shops, including antiques, art galleries, gift shops, and a tea room.  These businesses host two annual events for shoppers; one in March and a holiday open house on the 1st weekend of November. Poquoson is also located close to other area destinations such as Williamsburg, Yorktown, and the Newport News Mariners Museum, which features ship models, figureheads, scrimshaw, steam engines, and more.
